How to Check Compatibility

Match the original thermostat type, not just the water-heater brand. Upper and lower thermostats are usually different.

Have a qualified installer check the water heater’s model-specific parts list, original part number, electrical ratings, mounting and wiring diagram. The catalog’s adjustment range describes the component; it is not a recommended water-temperature setting.

Electrical Safety

Installation and servicing should be performed by a qualified professional. Disconnect power at the breaker or fuse and verify that power is off before servicing. Incorrect installation can cause severe injury. Follow the water heater manufacturer’s instructions and applicable electrical codes.

WARNING: Cancer and Reproductive Harm. See P65Warnings.ca.gov.

Common Questions

Can this replace a lower thermostat?
Do not select it for that purpose based on appearance. This is the UV13359 upper thermostat; the appliance’s exact parts specification controls.

Is it a room thermostat or a complete water heater?
No. It is one replacement water-heater control component.

See the Rheem parts catalog, thermostat page 9 for the UV13359 specification row.
